What is corporate social responsibility? - ADECON example

How can you run a business in a way that demonstrates your commitment to the environment and society, while also growing your business? This is what corporate social responsibility is all about. In this article, we will explain what CSR is and what benefits it offers. We will also tell you about something that is very important to us – ADECON's involvement with the Herosi foundation.

What is CSR?

CSR is the strategic development of a business by strengthening its image in the eyes of the community.

Thanks to it, you can, for example, position your company as a charity investor. CSR practices allow you to build a positive image for your company. You can get involved in social and environmental projects, depending on your values.

The definition of this concept assumes that an entrepreneur is responsible for their impact on society, the environment and the working conditions of their employees. It is completely voluntary and consistent with the company's values. A business guided by this approach takes into account social interests, ecology, business ethics and relations with the environment.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) encompasses activities based on sustainable development and responsibility for the organisation's impact on its environment. To this end, it combines its objectives with care for people and the environment.

How does CSR differ from ESG?

Although the two terms often appear side by side, they refer to slightly different approaches to company development. CSR focuses primarily on social values and activities. These are voluntary initiatives by a company to show that it wants to operate ethically, help people, care for the environment and have a positive impact on its surroundings.

ESG, on the other hand, is a set of specific, measurable criteria used to assess how a company operates. It covers three areas:

  1. E (Environmental) - impact on the environment,
  2. S (Social) - activities towards employees and society,
  3. G (Governance) - how the company is managed, transparency and accountability.

Simply put:

  1. CSR is a philosophy and approach to responsible business operations.
  2. ESG, on the other hand, is a set of indicators showing how a company performs in practice.

What is CSR?

Responsible business means that a company takes action to protect the environment and supports the local community. In short, it puts ethics first.

What are the benefits of this approach? Among other things, it helps companies gain customer loyalty. Implementing CSR benefits both the company and the community.

What are the four basic pillars of CSR?

The concept of corporate social responsibility is based on four pillars. Together, they form the foundation for the honest functioning of an organisation. Do you want to introduce this concept into your business? If so, try to follow the points we are about to discuss.

1. Environmental responsibility

Take care to protect the environment and natural resources. What can you do to achieve this? Reduce waste, implement projects related to ecology and build a chain of environmental responsibility.

2. Social responsibility

Support social initiatives. How can you do this? Get involved in charitable or educational projects by working with non-governmental organisations. Also, build equality among your employees by creating an inclusive work environment that is accessible to people with disabilities. Support your local community as well.

3. Economic responsibility

Operate in accordance with the law, keeping track of changing regulations. Manage your finances honestly, do not abuse your market position, and ensure economic stability – both for yourself and your employees. Above all, make business decisions with the long-term development of the company in mind.

4. Responsibility towards employees

Take care of each and every one of your employees. Create decent working conditions by building a culture based on mutual respect. This will increase employee engagement, which in turn will improve the company's image and make it easier for you to manage the company.

These are the four key elements of a strategy that will show that you care about society and the environment. Show your social commitment, and society will be more willing to contribute to the development of your company. How can you improve the development of your company by introducing CSR? Simply implement these activities. How? It's easy! Let's explain it now.

How can you implement CSR in your company?

Start by defining what, where and why you want to implement CSR. These can be environmental, social or business issues. Analyse your impact on the environment and choose initiatives that are in line with your values.

What can you do? For example, encourage your employees to volunteer and participate in other social activities. In addition, promote ethical standards of business management, take initiatives for sustainable development and invest in stakeholder relations. This is how corporate social responsibility is shaped.

What are some examples of corporate social responsibility?

Companies involved in CSR often demonstrate initiatives in various areas. These include:

  1. investments in environmental protection,
  2. educational projects,
  3. employee volunteering,
  4. local community projects,
  5. programmes to improve working conditions,
  6. support for human rights,
  7. conscious resource management.

Such practices help to shape a positive image of the company and strengthen relationships with stakeholders.

How do CSR activities affect reputation and trust building?

CSR will help you gain the trust of stakeholders and earn customer loyalty.

Remember that companies that undertake social activities are perceived as more credible and ethical. CSR will allow your company to build a competitive advantage and achieve better business results.

Why do companies implement CSR strategies?

Well, organisational responsibility benefits all parties involved. After all, CSR improves the situation of society. The company, on the other hand, gains the sympathy of customers, improves its reputation on the market, promotes ethical business practices and facilitates the achievement of the company's goals.

Sure, in a way, companies take on the task of building social awareness. Nevertheless, the introduction of corporate social responsibility principles guarantees them tangible benefits.

What CSR tools help companies build relationships?

There are many such tools, ranging from non-financial reports and volunteer programmes to transparent communication. You can implement your strategy by:

  • informing stakeholders about CSR activities,
  • transparent reporting,
  • encouraging employees to participate in these activities,
  • cooperating with partners,
  • initiatives for the benefit of society.

The latter are particularly important to us. We are keen to get involved in charity campaigns. Let us tell you about an initiative that is very important to us.

Help ADECON support Little Heroes

This year, ADECON has once again decided not to give corporate Christmas gifts. Instead, we have allocated the entire budget to support the Heroes Foundation.

This initiative is of particular importance to us because it is linked to the personal experiences of ADECON's CEO. While his daughter was being treated in the oncology ward of the Mother and Child Institute, he got to know the realities of this centre from the inside. That is why he knows how important specialised equipment and decent treatment conditionsare for young patients.

As part of this year's campaign, ADECON is supporting a fundraiser to purchase specialised beds for young patients in the ward. You can help too. Together, let's change the living conditions of children and their families in their most difficult moments.

We believe that companies should use their capabilities to help others. After all, CSR means developing the common good.
